What visitors have to say about the school!

Sample of what people have to say, after visiting the school:

Reena, Bangalore: "The time I spent at the Kalkeri School goes on record as one of my best times, ever! I was moved to tears by the performance and I cherish every moment spent with the kids.

We sure know where to go when ones needs a little and peace and LOT of joy, in this rather distressed and trite city lives we lead!"

Nitya, Bangalore: "Thank you so much for your hospitality and warmth. I was very overwhelmed with the children's performance. It has to be the most perfect rendition of Jaunpuri I've ever heard. I have half a mind to get one of them to teach me "Payal ki jhankaar".

Every child I interacted with, was passionate, talented and aware. And it is clear that your team has put in a lot of effort. It takes some courage to run the place. Especially considering that the mode of education is different from standard fare.

Wonderful wonderful job!"

Contribute money towards monthly expenses of the school

The school, which has around 100 students staying on campus, needs a sizeable amount every month for food, clothing, medical care, teachers' salaries, educational equipment/music instruments and books, electricity, transport, and maintenance of buildings.

With increasing number of students, the school is struggling to raise this amount. Your contributions will go a long way to keep this ideal alive.

Contributions to the school are eligible for deduction under section 80G, of Income Tax act.

Contribute in kind

You can contribute books, clothes, stationery, educational software.

Watch this video - SunGard Software Solutions contributed computers to the school a few years ago - and their arrival was a big event for the kids!

Computers arrive at the school! : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDCNOwtu0_Q

Come stay!

Come stay at the school for short periods and teach the children in interactive ways - music, or any school subject. Young people from many parts of the world come and stay at Kalkeri, often on exchange programs.

Provide innovative ideas

Come up with innovative ideas for the development of the school. They have a few computers there, donated by SunGard Software Solutions - children have basic computer knowledge. Internet connection exists, but is slow, and depends on faulty telephone connections.

Tell the whole world!

Spread the word, and encourage others to visit/help/participate! If you have friends who are musicians, do let them know - they will relate to this in a special way.

And if you know of people abroad who want to do volunteer service in a foreign country, do let them know of this unique opportunity.

Thank you!

About Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyala

".........The time spent at KSV changed their vision of themselves and the scale of their dreams. They developed aspirations that were foreign to them before their arrival at the school."

These lines from the description of Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya summarizes the profound life- changing effect of the school on children from backgrounds that did not permit them the luxury of dreaming.

Set amidst beautiful green rolling hills and idyllic village scenes, this unique school follows the Indian tradition of Gurukula. Rural children from poor and tribal families stay at the school and learn Hindustani Classical music, regular academic subjects, and yoga. And also the most important fact that they have as much right to happiness and progress as anyone else.

An initiative of the Kalkeri Sangeet Vidyalaya Trust, the school sees volunteers from across the world come, stay, and teach music and academic subjects to the children.

A place full of pleasant surprises, you have to see it to believe it. Come visit us!
